Our Reception class is a big, bright room opening on to its own secure and enclosed garden. Nearly all of our Nursery children carry on into Reception and are joined by other newcomers. They all quickly settle in the cheerful atmosphere.
In Reception, children consolidate the letters and sounds begun in Nursery and get their first phonically decodeable reading books. Parents are encouraged to read with their children daily as this important practice helps the children to make quick progress. Number work is integral to every activity, first up to 10 and then 20: we sing, sort, count, share, so that numbers are in the hand and the head right from the start.
All children receive specialist-taught lessons from the start including weekly sessions of Music, Art, Drama, Computing and Sport including Ball Skills, Gym, Dance (General and Ballet) and Swimming. Reception join the whole school for assemblies, lunch and playtimes, making the transition into Year 1 an easy and natural one.
